Overview
T-Collective formed in 2018 as a group of older RMIT PhD students whose conceptual concerns, material practice and theoretical discourse were closely aligned. As artists with strong thematic links we envisaged collectivity as a structure to promote our individual practice/s and to draw attention to the lack of visibility for older emerging artists whose artmaking focused on the legacy of trauma.

Assembly Point provides a space to show work that generates a critical discourse and is relevant to contemporary art and culture. Our interests focus on more specific areas like the complexity and mutability of memory, the inherent problems interpreting childhood experience, the transmission of affect and the identification of trajectories in the visual language of trauma in the realms of the vernacular and the artistic. A common element that applies to each of our individual practices is that we work across a variety of media. Our concept was naturally inclined to this traumatic COVID world we live in, with its attendant mental health issues and physical distancing requirements. As a collective we could bring four distinct perspectives of agency and resilience through our artwork and its visual discourse. Our intention was to present our work in a sequence of dialogues – strands that work around common themes. Each artist installed their work in a vitrine (four total), with our combined work in the fifth large vitrine.
